(A) Class 4A Region 3 Tournament

GAME SUMMARY

It was a rollercoaster day for the Windsor High School boys’ golf team at the Class 4A Region 3 tournament at Quail Dunes Golf Course in Fort Morgan. By the skin of their teeth, all four Wizard golfers qualified for the Class 4A state tournament held Oct. 5-6 at the Country Club of Colorado in Colorado Springs. Windsor finished fourth as a team with a three-person tally of 237 (21-over par), seven shots behind first place Mullen and five behind second place Riverdale Ridge. Despite not securing an automatic bid to state as a team by finishing among the top two, all four of Windsor’s golfers qualified individually. Senior Alex Tanner and junior Brentyn Paiz both tied for 10th with 78s and sophomores Carter Hinkle and Landon Ball tied for 18th with 81s. The top two teams and the next 13 individuals receive an invitation to state. Hinkle and Ball were the 13th and 14th individuals and snuck into state without having to play off against each other because the score of the fourth golfer on Riverdale Ridge wasn’t 10 strokes within the cut line of 81. That opened up another individual spot, thus allowing the Windsor teammates state access. This is the second-straight year Windsor will compete as a team in state, and just the second time in school history (first was in 2014) that four Wizards will compete at the final tournament. Way to battle today boys!
