Boys All Levels Swim & Dive
Don't forget our end-of-year banquet on Tuesday, May 22! We'll be at the Windsor Community Rec Center starting at 5:30 PM! See you there!
US AIR FORCE ACADEMY - Powered by their highest ever state finishes in both a relay and individual event, the Windsor Men's Swimming & Diving Team captured the 4A State Title on Saturday. The 200 Medley Relay team of Riley Miller, Ethan Hansbury, Colby Horton, and Andrew Scoggin set a new school record on their way to a second place finish in the opening event of the meet. Their feat was matched by Miller's school record and second place finish in the 100 Backstroke.
Once the water settled at the Air Force Academy Natatorium, the Wizards had chalked up ten A-Finals (top 8) swims and four more B-Finals (top 16) finishes. All told, Windsor swimmers set school records in six of the twelve events this weekend.
The 4A Northern Conference Championships will be held at the Greeley Rec. Center on Friday, May 11 and Saturday, May 12.
Windsor is co-hosting Conference, and we'll need at least four timers for each session. If you are willing to help, please let the person at the gate know!
Swimmers and divers will load the bus in front of Windsor High School on Friday at 1:20 PM. The meet starts at 4:30.
For Saturday, divers will meet the van at 6:45 AM in the WHS front parking lot, with diving starting at 9:00. Swimmers will board the bus at 10:30. The Finals session begins at 1:00 PM. All swimmers and divers are required to attend the Finals session.
The week of Conference Championships has arrived! Friday and Saturday will be the pinnacle of the season for most of our swimmers and divers. Please see details below:
A taper is the reduction in yardage and overall intensity from a swimmer's workload prior to a major swim meet. Swimmers who have not yet achieved a State qualifying time began taper last week. State qualifying swimmers will start taper this afternoon. Practices gradually get shorter and shorter throughout taper -- many swimmers will finish Thursday's practice in about an hour (as opposed to two). During taper, athletes may begin to feel the additional energy we are conserving in practice -- they are highly encouraged to rest and reserve this energy for the meet on Friday and Saturday!
Team Dinner & Shave Party - Thursday, May 10
The annual pre-conference team dinner and shave party will be Thursday, May 10 after practice at the Miller residence. Swimmers are strongly encouraged to shave their legs for conference competition, and may do so on Thursday evening. Athletes should bring shaving supplies with them, and should not share used razors. The Millers live within walking distance of Windsor HS -- their address will be available at practice on Thursday.
Conference - Friday, May 11 & Saturday, May 12
Conference will be held at the Greeley Recreation Center in downtown Greeley. The actual Conference Championships meet is divided into three sections:
Swimming Prelims & Diving Warm-up - Friday, May 11
This is the first session of Conference. Boards will be open for divers to "test the waters" for the duration of the warm-up period. Swimmers will have assigned warm-up times. During this portion of the meet, only swimming events will be contested. Athletes who finish in the top 4 from their school AND in the top 16 overall qualify to return for the Saturday Finals session. Athletes who finish in 17th and 18th place (while still being in the top 4 from their school) are listed as alternates and should be ready to swim in the Finals session if a higher seeded competitor is unable to compete.
Bus @ 1:20 PM in front of Windsor HS
Meet Starts @ 4:30 PM
Diving Prelims & Semifinals - Saturday, May 12 AM
Divers will complete the first 8 dives of their 11-dive list on Saturday morning during a dedicated diving session. Cuts will be made (if necessary) after 5 and 8 dives. Like the swimming prelims, above, there cannot be more than 16 divers or more than 4 divers from any one school in the finals session.
Van @ 6:45 AM in front of Windsor HS
Meet Starts @ 9:00 AM
Conference Championship Finals - Saturday, May 12 PM
The finals session consists of a consolation heat (9th - 16th place during prelims) and finals heat (1st - 8th place during prelims) of each event. The entire team is expected to the at the finals session to support the team regardless to whether or not they are competing.

In preparation for construction, the Windsor HS pool began draining on Friday at noon. For the rest of the season:
- Divers are practicing at Mountain View HS Aquatic Center. Divers should meet Coach Hawker at WHS immediately after school. Transportation will be provided both to, and from, MVHS.
- Swimmers are practicing at Chimney Park Pool in Windsor. Because the venue is in town, transportation will not be provided. Practices have been pushed back 20 minutes so that swimmers have ample time to safely get to CPP. Swim practices will be 3:45 - 5:45 for the remainder of the season Note that the CPP pool is heated, and swim practices will be held rain or shine. Town of Windsor lifeguards and the coaching staff will monitor weather conditions and clear the pool in the event of unsafe weather.

The Windsor HS pool will be drained starting at 12:00 PM on Friday, April 27. As of Monday, April 30, practices will be held in alternate locations:
Swim practices will be held at the Chimney Park Pool from 3:45 - 5:45 PM. Note that practices have been shifted back slightly to allow swimmers to get to the pool. Swimmers are encouraged to carpool or walk (just over a mile) as a group. As the Chimney Park Pool is within district boundaries, transportation will not be provided. The Town of Windsor has been hard at work getting the pool ready for us (several weeks earlier than they would normally open the pool). The pool is heated, and practice will only be delayed/canceled for lightning or other dangerous weather events. Normal springtime showers are not cause to cancel. If you have any questions, please contact Coach Trevor or Coach Heather.
Dive practices will be held at Mountain View High School in Loveland. Divers should meet Coach Hawker immediately after school each day. Divers will be transported to and from Mountain View. If you have any questions, please contact Coach Hawker.
We are thankful that both the Town of Windsor and Thompson School District have been so accommodating!

The Weld County meet will be Tuesday, April 17 at 3:30 PM at the Greeley Recreation Center. This meet was added to our calendar after the start of the season. Athletes will be excused from school at 1:45 so that we can travel to Greeley in time for warm-up.
NOTE that depending upon availability of officials, diving will potentially run concurrently with swimming.
The Mustang Invite is coming up this weekend! The meet is held at the Veteran's Memorial Aquatic Center (VMAC) in Thornton, and generally runs fairly quickly.
Divers will be released at 1:15 PM on Friday, and will leave the student parking lot by 1:30 PM.
Swimmers will meet the bus in the WHS student parking lot by 5:40 AM on Saturday morning.
Meet results are posted at MaxPreps.com by the meet host after each meet. You can check out individual and team results around the state by visiting MaxPreps.com, then using the search tool to find Windsor High School (make sure it's the Colorado one) or search for your swimmer or diver by name.
MaxPreps is the official state qualifier database for CHSAA.
There will be a team dinner on Monday, April 23, to get the swimmers and divers ready for our LAST HOME MEET!!! Details will be available at practice throughout the week. Diving practice will start early on Monday the 23rd so that divers can make it to dinner on time.

Our first team dinner of the year will be at the Dodrill residence after practice on Wednesday, March 21. The Dodrill's address will be shared with swimmers and divers at practice.
Attendance at team dinners is considered optional, but is highly encouraged, as they are a great opportunity for team bonding outside the water.
Our second (of three) home meets this year will be on Thursday at 5:00 PM. As with any home meet, we always need timers. Please consider volunteering for this important job. If you are interested, let the ticket person know, and they will let you in.

Are team suits required?
Yes, team suits are required and should be purchased annually (with the exception of polyester suits -- see explanation below).
What do the team suits look like?
Team suits are black with the Windsor HS "W and star" logo screened in maroon and metallic gold.
Why are there so many options for team suits?
Team suits are available in two different styles and three different materials for a total of six different options.
This is what most people picture when they hear the word "Speedo", and has been a mainstay of competitive swimming for decades.
The jammer is a more recent development in swimming and looks similar to bike shorts. By rule, suits may not extend beyond the knee, so care must be taken when ordering to insure a proper fit.
Aquablade fabric is exclusive to Speedo. It offers a lower drag coefficient and is slicker than skin. Aquablade suits appear striped - these stripes serve a purpose, streamlining water away from the body. This suit should be reserved for meets only, and should never be worn at practice. The Aquablade fabric is the fastest material in our team suit collection. Athletes that will likely qualify for State and do not want to purchase a tech suit for that meet are encouraged to get an Aquablade team suit.
Lycra suits tend to be somewhat abrasion resistant and are low in water absorbency. Lycra suits are known to stretch-out and fade over time, but if reserved for meets only, will easily last for the entire season. Lycra suits in good condition are very suitable for most levels of competition.
Polyester suits tend to be the most durable suit, and last a long time without obvious signs of stretching, fading, or wearing out. Full polyester suits, however, have the largest drag coefficient of the three options. Polyester team suits are the only suits suitable for daily practice in addition to meets.
My team suit from last year looks pretty good -- do I really need to buy one again?
Yes - we have had several instances of swimmers electing not to purchase a new team suit, only to find out that last year's suit had become see-through only one or two meets into the season. Purchasing a team suit after the rest of the team requires the shop to set up our logo screen again which may impact cost. It is best to order your suit with everyone else at the beginning of the season.
Is there assistance available for purchasing team suits?
Yes - please speak with a member of the coaching staff. We can arrange options including fundraising to help support your purchase.
The 2018 season is quickly approaching, and you will begin to see meets on our schedule. While we do our best to insure the accuracy of this information, please note that our schedule is subject to change -- especially this far out! Please check back often, and always refer to the online schedule on this website as our official calendar.
See you soon!
