Boys All Levels Swim & Dive
Our season officially starts Monday, so we're down to the final countdown. Please review this message in its entirety so that you're prepared for the season:
Athletics Registration must be completed through the Windsor HS athletics office prior to being able to participate in official practices or meets. The official registration deadline is tomorrow, Wednesday, April 21. Late registration is available, but the athletics office may have reduced availability. Please complete the registration process as soon as possible. For more information, see the Windsor HS Spring Sports Registration page.
Virtual Parent Meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 6:45 PM - 7:45 PM via Google Meets. This meeting will cover all of the details for the season and answer any of your questions, so attendance is critical. Please mark your calendars!! The meeting link was shared via email on Tuesday, April 20 at approximately 4:30 PM. If you did not receive a meeting link, please contact a member of the coaching staff.
Preseason Practices are strongly encouraged, but optional. Athletic registration is NOT required to participate in preseason. The remaining preseason practices are:
- Wednesday, Thursday, & Friday, April 21 - 23, 4:05 - 5:30 PM (swimmers & divers)
- Saturday, April 24, 8:00 - 9:30 AM (divers only)
Regular Season Practices begin Monday, April 26. Swimmers and divers need to complete athletic registration in advance, and provide proof of registration (gold pass) to the coaching staff. For the remainder of the school year, the normal practice schedule will be:
- Swimming: Mon - Fri, 4:05 PM - 6:05 PM
- Diving: Mon - Fri, 7:00 AM - 8:15 AM
Team Gear is available in the MI Sports team store for Windsor HS. All swimmers and divers are required to purchase a team suit (if you purchased one last year, and have not used it, that will suffice). If you need assistance, we have a few donated suits from last year's seniors who were unable to use their suits; please contact Coach Timmons for information. Team parkas are strongly recommended. Team t-shirts will be provided for athletes (do not order these in the store), but may be purchased by families to support the team. Order deadline is Wednesday, April 28 at the end of the day.
Meet Schedule has been updated, and is available online on the swim & dive page at windsorwizards.org. As with everything this year, dates, times, and locations are subject to change. Any changes will be reflected on the website as soon as they are known.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to a member of the coaching staff. We’re looking forward to seeing swimmers and divers at our preseason practices starting tomorrow, and parents at our virtual parent meeting next Tuesday.
Athletics Registration is OPEN
To avoid lines and make sure you do not have any unnecessary delays due to missing paperwork, etc, please complete your athletic registration as soon as possible. Instructions are available on the Spring Sports Registration page.
We're excited to welcome divers in addition to swimmers to our preseason camp this Saturday. The remaining preseason schedule is below:
Sat, April 17, 8:00 - 9:30 AM Swim & Dive
Wed, April 21, 4:05 - 5:30 PM Swim & Dive
Thu, April 22, 4:05 - 5:30 PM Swim & Dive
Fri, April 23, 4:05 - 5:30 PM Swim & Dive
Sat, April 24, 8:00 - 9:30 AM Divers only
With so little school left this year, maintaining academic eligibility is EXTREMELY important. Note that courses taken during the third quarter will be factored into eligibility for the duration of the season. Furthermore, because school will end only 3-4 weeks into the season, final grades will impact eligibility for the rest of the season. Student-athletes need to be shoring up grades now, if necessary, to avoid eligibility complications in May.
Team Store is Open
MI Sports has opened our team store.
Our meet schedule is fairly complete, and has been updated on our website at windsorwizards.org. As with everything this year, the meet schedule is subject to change.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out!
Registration Opens: April 10
Registration Deadline: April 21
Athletes - get your physicals completed now - DON'T DELAY! Athletes may begin registering and submitting registration items to obtain a Spring Sports Permit beginning April 10, 2021. Physicals are required for registration. (CHSAA Physical Examination Form)
Athletes Who Have Already Participated in a Sport at WHS this School Year
For athletes that have already registered online and have played a sport this year, DO NOT REGISTER AGAIN! You only need to see Mrs. Legino (Athletics Office) to verify your physical is current and to pay your sports fee ($150 for Windsor HS, Severance HS, & Inspire students | $225 for out-of-district, homeschool, and WCA students). At that time, you will be issued your Spring Sports Permit. Note that NO REFUNDS will be permitted if you quit once practices begin.
Athletes Who Have NOT Participated in a Sport at WHS this School Year
If you have not yet registered or played a sport this school year, go to windsorwizards.org and click on the Spring Sports Registration tab for detailed registration information and instructions. Please read and follow the information and instructions very carefully to ensure you complete and submit all of the required items. ONLY COMPLETED REGISTRATION ITEMS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Dear Wizard Swimmers and Divers (and Parents/Guardians),
In a normal year, this upcoming Monday would have been the start of our season, so we are sending this email to provide you with some updated information. Details are subject to change, and we will keep you informed of changes as we approach the start of our season.
Men’s Swimming & Diving has been slotted into “Season D” this year. Please note these important dates:
- Optional Preseason Camp • Wednesday, April 21 - Friday, April 23
- First Official Practice • Monday, April 26
- Mandatory Parent Meeting • Thursday, April 29 @ 6:30 PM
- First Possible Meet • Monday, May 3
- End of Regular Season • Saturday, June 19
- 4A State Meet • Friday, June 25
With the exception of the State meet on Friday, June 25, we have not received any meet schedule information yet. Meets are generally on Thursday afternoons.
Registration for the season is handled by Windsor HS regardless of which school you attend. We anticipate registration to open in early/mid-April. However, during the meantime, please make sure you have an up-to-date physical exam with appropriate documentation. If your last physical exam was before June 25, 2020, you will need an updated physical -- please schedule that as soon as possible. The CHSAA Physical Exam Form is available here.
With the high school day shifting later this year, practices will also shift. Practices during the school year will be held according to the schedule listed below. Note that practices will not be held on meet days.
Swimming • Monday - Friday, 4:05 PM - 6:05 PM
Diving • Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 8:15 AM
Swim practices will move to the mornings once we reach summer break; more information will be provided at a future date.
Masks - Anyone affiliated with the team will be required to wear masks at all times when not in the water. Masks will be kept near the pool, so swimmers and divers are encouraged to bring a quart-size Ziploc bag, Tupperware, or other watertight container for mask storage.
Screening - temperature checks will be performed upon arrival at school (during the school year) or practice (summer break). Athletes with elevated temperatures will be sent home. Athletes and the coaching staff may not attend a team activity while experiencing symptoms.
Social Distancing - modifications will be made to practice and meet structures to allow social distancing to the extent possible.
Changes to Meet Structures
Dual Meets will only be held against other teams in our league. We will not be competing head-to-head against teams outside of our league. Any external meets will be held as “virtual meets”, with Windsor HS competing at our own pool and the other school competing at their own school at the same time.
Invitationals will not be held this year.
Maximum Number of Meets that any swimmer or diver can compete in is seven (7) exclusive of Conference and State.
Minimum Number of Meets that any swimmer or diver must compete in has been waived for this year.
State Meet Qualifying will be restricted to the top 20 fastest times entered in each event. As such, there will not be State qualifying time standards in the traditional sense, but the top 20 list will be updated throughout the season. Note that, in some cases, swimmers could qualify in more than 2 events, so the 21st fastest time in the state could potentially qualify for the state meet. Divers can only qualify with a top 20 11-dive score. The 6-dive format cannot be used to qualify for state this year. Divers with an 11-dive list will be given the opportunity to perform 11 dives at dual meets.
State Meet Format will be timed finals. Athletes will wait outside of the venue when not competing.
Spectators may be restricted or prohibited based upon current conditions at all meets. All home meets will be live streamed at facebook.com/WHSAquaWizards/Live
Athletes are strongly encouraged to provide their own equipment in normal years, but this is even more critical this year.
Parkas - To alleviate capacity restrictions, athletes may end up waiting for their events in areas other than the pool deck -- this may make parkas even more beneficial this year. Team parkas can be ordered from MI Sports.
Practice Equipment - Swimmers should have the following equipment at each practice
Suit & Goggles (required), Cap (if desired)
Gear Bag with snorkel, paddles, pull buoy, kickboard, and fins. With the exception of snorkels, which will not be checked out this year, the team has a limited amount of equipment that can be checked out. Those who wish to purchase their own equipment can do so at MI Sports.
Team Suit is a black jammer or brief with the Windsor HS logo, and is required. These can be purchased from MI Sports. If you bought one in 2020 that is still new and fits, you will not need to purchase one this year. Some 2020 seniors donated suits that they purchased but were unable to wear last year. If you are unable to purchase a suit, please check with a member of the coaching staff. Team suits should not be worn for practice.
Team Cap will be provided to all swimmers who need one, and should last the entire season with appropriate care. Subsequent caps may be purchased at cost.
Team T-Shirt will be provided to all swimmers and divers; sizes will be collected at practice. Family members are invited to show their team pride by purchasing (and wearing) a team t-shirt from MI Sports.
We leverage Teams by MaxPreps as well as our website as our primary means of communications once the season starts. Teams information will be provided at the start of the season. In the meantime, you can sign up for alerts from our website by clicking Join in the top-right corner, creating an account, then manage alerts for our team from your account.
We will continue to communicate with you as we approach the season in late-April. Please do not hesitate to reach out to any of us with any questions or concerns.
